After being denied entry into the country twice, Wayne Houchin was forced to cancel his Canada tour that was scheduled to start last night. Here is what Wayne posted on his blog.
Yesterday afternoon I tried to cross into Ontario to begin a small tour that was to include Kitchener, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Niagara Falls. After looking at my tour schedule the border patrol told me they wanted me to obtain a labour market opinion and special permit as I “might be taking jobs from Canadian Citizens.” They denied me entry into Canada. I obtained additional paperwork and tried to cross a second time – again I was denied entry.
Over the past decade I have made frequent trips to Canada for business and pleasure. In addition to having toured the west coast on the X-elent Lecture Series and headlining a convention in Montreal, I have volunteered at Sorcerers Safari summer camp in Toronto for the past 6 years. I have had no issues crossing the border in the past and invitation letters have been sufficient. This time, however, they were not.
