NO CAMPFIRES. NO SING-ALONGS. JUST MAGIC. WELCOME TO THE REAL HOGWARTS…

In this amazingly shot documentary by Judd Ehrlich we follow the story of five young magicians. This year Magic Camp was held at the Bryn Mawr College in my home state of Pennsylvania. The camp has been home to many famous magicians that everyone knows today, such as Copperfield, David Blaine and Criss Angel. The five magicians include:

  • Jonah Conlin (Age 12)
  • Zachariah Ivins (Age 15)
  • Zoe Reiches (Age 16)
  • Brian Woodbridge (Age 19)
  • Reed Spool (Age 18)
As you can see there is a pretty big age gap between the magicians. Day one of camp all magicians have the option to compete in the main competition. At the end of the first show, four magicians will be chosen to compete at the end of the week. Out of the five magicians listed above, the four chosen for the final show include Jonah Conlin, Zachariah Ivins, Zoe Reiches, and Reed Spool. In the end each magician held their head’s high after a week long magic event.
Don’t run away from who you are, don’t be someone else..create your own character
- Hiawatha Johnson Jr (camp counselor)
The four finalist rose to the occasion and performed their very best for the final show.

Jonah Conlin is an awesome kid! Performing was a personal challenge for Jonah after receiving news of his father being in the hospital half way through the week. A year after camp Jonah continued to excel in his school as well as winning a state wide magic competition.

Zachariah Ivins performs a different kind of magic. Growing up in a christian home, naturally he’s a christian magician. Afterwards Mr.Ivins went on to perform 75-100 magic shows a year.

Zoe Reiches who was 1 out of 7 girls at the camp, performed the show in her own character, superwoman. The audience laughed and loved every second she was on stage. After spending some time performing at her fathers restaurant Zoe went on to be the only female counselor at the camp.

Reed Spool did the unthinkable. After Hiawatha told him several times to change his act, Spool stuck to his originality for the final performance. After camp Reed earned his GED and is currently enlisted in college, something he never planned on doing.

Brian Woodbridge is a fighter. Being diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome Brian over comes them with magic. Even though he didn’t make into the final competition he still gave his week at Tannen’s camp his very best. He improved his act, handling and entire routine. A year after camp Brian went back to college! He plans on pursuing a career in Tourette Syndrom advocacy and education.

Overall, Judd Ehrlich did an awesome job! The transitions, introduction, and just everything about the film was planned and executed perfectly. You can read everything you need to know about the film, find out who the winners of the final act were, and purchase tickets to the various screenings on its official Magic Camp site. You can catch the trailer for the movie below, enjoy.

Above is the official implosion to the O’shea’s parking garage. It means the end for Dirk Arthur’s Wild Magic show which promised an up close and person experience with a big cat illusion show. In place of the parking garage is going the world’s largest ferris wheel.

There is no word on when a new Dirk Arthur show will rise from the ashes.

Back in December, rumors started to pop up about Dirk Arthur shutting down his show due to the hotel/casino construction. The original date for the closing of the show was March 1st. That didn’t happen. It is now said that Arthur will close his show on May 1st, the same day as the O’Shea’s Casino will be shut down. Dirk moved into the venue back in September of 2010. The show which included huge cats you’d only find at the zoo will be missed.

Good luck in the future to the Dirk Arthur crew!
